Bob’s Short Story Hour (Podcast) by Robert Daun
Are you listening? How many times has your friend, lover, coach, mother, teacher said that to you in your lifetime? The simple pleasures of a good conversation are being buried alive by fast fingers and slick, three letter abbreviations. OMG! WTF!
A long, long, long, long, time ago. Are you still listening? People would sit (upright with straight posture no less) in their parlors, sip their tea and talk. Like for hours. Just talk. Imagine that.
My friends tell me I’m a good listener. I listen to them babble on about the dress that didn’t fit, the PTO meeting that lasted four hours and their good for nothing, “didn’t put the trash out again” husbands. Three hours later and all I’ve contributed to the conversation is “Hello” and “Bartender, another wine please”.
Luckily, there is a creative outlet for the Chatty Cathy’s of the world…the PODCAST. There is a podcast for whatever tickles your fancy from fruitcakes and fertility to porn and pig farming. If I had a podcast it would go something like this: hi…um…yeah…I’m…I can’t do this! If Bob had a podcast, it would go something like this…
Here’s a simple concept (authors and musicians take note), you submit your short story or song and Bob reads it or plays it. No porn, no pigs. Just damn good stories, cool “grab yourself a cold one” musical riffs and Bob’s lyrical zest.
Sometimes Bob dabbles in voice acting as he does in “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry in Episode 18 (1st Anniversary Special). Suddenly I’m in England daydreaming of Mr. Darcy and his magic words, “You have bewitched me body and soul”. It never gets old.
The stories have character, the music is soothing and soulful and Bob brings it all from his microphone to your ear canal with professional prowess.
Alright everyone, listen up. Everyone? Can you hear me? Can I have your attention please?
OMG SHUT UP!
In conclusion, Bobs Short Story Hour is a good time. Thank you for listening.
